Rafael Santos

I have graduated in Data Processing Technology by the Federal University of Pará State (Brazil) in 1990, and got my MsC and PhD in Applied Artificial Intelligence at the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Fukuoka, Japan) in 1995 and 1998, respectively. I was a postdoctoral scholar at the Johns Hopkins University (USA) in 2011 and 2015 and a visiting researcher at Kyushu Sangyo Daigaku (Fukuoka, Japan) in 2013.

Presently I am a senior technologist and the head of the Laboratory for Applied Computing and Mathematics at the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE) and coordinator of the Graduate Program in Applied Computing.

My main interest and research areas are data science, data mining, applied artificial intelligence and image processing.
